Help

How to use the start page. No account is required.

Search the web

The search box is at the top of the homepage. Type what you want, then press Enter or Search. The browser opens the engine you chose: Google, Bing, or DuckDuckGo. Google is the default.

The engine you pick is remembered in this browser. This browser does not keep a search history. An empty search, or a search made only of spaces, stays on this page.

Press / to put the cursor in the search box, unless you are already typing in a field or the shortcut dialog is open. Escape clears the box. The × button does the same.

If JavaScript is unavailable, Search still opens Google.

Shortcuts

Each tile opens a site. Customise turns on editing. You can then change a name or link, delete a tile, or move it within its category. Drag a tile by its name or icon onto another tile in the same category. The Up and Down buttons, and the arrow keys while a button on that tile is focused, do the same.

Add shortcut asks for a name, an http or https link, a category, and an icon. Other kinds of link, including javascript: addresses, are rejected. Get icon, beside the link, fetches a favicon before you save. Logo, on a tile while editing, does the same for a shortcut that is already saved. Letter switches it back. Site logo in the icon menu is the same choice.

Restore defaults asks you to press the button again before it replaces your tiles with the built-in set. Those changes stay in this browser only. Another device, or a browser whose site data you have cleared, starts from the built-in set again.

Theme

Light and Dark switch the colours. The first visit follows your system setting. After you choose, that choice stays on this device.

Weather

Weather is off until you press Show weather. The browser then asks for your location. The page rounds it to about a kilometre and requests a forecast from Open-Meteo. Hide weather stops new requests.

If location is blocked or the forecast cannot be loaded, the page says so and offers Try again. Search and shortcuts keep working. Hide weather if you do not want the notice.

Labels you might see

Commercial on a shortcut means that tile uses an affiliate link the publisher has added. Advertisement marks a paid placement in its own section. If that section is missing, no placement is active. Neither label is added to a shortcut you create yourself.

If a service fails

Weather is optional, and analytics are not installed. The start page does not wait for either of them. A failed forecast leaves the search box and the shortcut grid in place.
